As we draw closer to the midseason update, Alec Dawson, the Lead Gameplay Designer for Overwatch 2, takes charge of the hero shooter’s “Director’s Take” blog to shed light on the team’s current thought process. Firstly, new hero Juno has been welcomed positively. The “lock on” feature of Juno was somewhat worrisome to Activision Blizzard, but players seem to have adapted well. According to Alec, she’s leaning towards the “pretty balanced” side, but some minor tweaks may still be introduced. However, Juno will remain as she is for a while longer before these changes are implemented.
On the contrary, the newly introduced “Clash” mode requires fine-tuning. The gameplay is excessively unbalanced or “stompy” as Alec puts it. He mentions, “Nobody likes excessively long queue times compared to match duration, and some Clash rounds conclude all too quickly. Although Overwatch has fluctuating gameplay, typically matches steady post initial teamfights. Allowing additional opportunities to teams to prevent an onslaught will improve Clash mode.”
The last capture zones continue to be ignored, even after divider into three sections. Continuous improvements are expected in this area. The Clash mode also tends to become overly disorderly, but substantial modifications will be put off until Season 13.
In conclusion, the survivability of tanks is currently too high. The armor power and certain passive defenses will be modified next week.
What are your thoughts on these modifications?
