In my 15+ years of reporting on games, I’ve never come across a headline as unconventional as this one. You are indeed a duck in DUCKSIDE, a PvE/PvP/survival game deeply inspired by games such as DayZ. To top it all off, you’re a duck with a hat.
The development of the game is handled by tinyBuild Riga, and tinyBuild, the publisher of Hello Neighbor, undertakes its publication.
Despite the game being announced on Fools’ Day, which led many people to dismiss it as a prank, it is, in fact, real. An open beta is ongoing, so feel free to join. The last attempt commenced today, and it will keep running until the 17th, after which the game will shift to early access on September 25th.
I could go into more granular detail, but the essence of the game is this: you embody a duck, and can either work as a team or independently to scavenge resources and scrape by in diverse environments.
