The TennoCon 2024 event has been overflowing with scoops today. If the keynote and Soulframe demo passed you by, don’t stress – simply head over to our comprehensive recap. The focus of this post, nonetheless, remains the multitude of revelations from Digital Extremes, most particularly about their lead shooter game, Warframe.
First order of business, let’s discuss upcoming content. Anticipate the arrival of Warframe: 1999 this chilly season. This added twist to Warframe transports players back to a dystopian Earth of 1999. It’s pretty grim and you’ll have to unite with a few comrades utilizing “Protoframes” to track down Dr. Entrati before the turn of the year.
The new Warframe addition is CYTE-09. Once a loner in the world of treasure hunting, they’re now equipped to assist back in 1999. Fear not, his sniper skills fit quite comfortably in the present as well, inclusive of the beret.
In the 1999 storyline, assisting the Protoframes is not just another plot point; players can actually form romantic connections with these characters through a fresh romance system. Not expected in a game like Warframe, known for its lack of romantic subplots.
Since we’re addressing unexpected elements in Warframe, let’s touch on 90s boy band Technocyte Coda. In the 1999 realm, one of the band members is voiced by Nick Apostolides from Resident Evil 4, and the band is dropping a single on Spotify tomorrow.
For your existing Warframes, get ready for a host of new skins, armaments, mounts, and a whole lot more. This introduces a new mode of transportation, the Atomicycle. We’ve seen a glimpse of this previously, but players can now look forward to hands-on action. Amongst the weapons, special adaptations of real weapons with Warframe nuances are coming soon. Gemini skins will be available for both current and Protoframes as well, alongside a few new emotes.
While Warframe: 1999 is slated for a winter release, an initial experience “The Lotus Eaters” in the form of a prelude for 1999, will drop in August. This escalates the gravity of the 1999 storyline and brings some old friends back. “The Lotus Eaters” follows on from “Whispers in the Walls”.
The August update also debuts Sevagoth Prime, decked out in gold.
If you’ve had enough of time-restricted Ember and Rhino Heirloom skins, there’s good news. They’re ditching the constraints and these skins are now available indefinitely.
Another treat in store is a unique collaboration with THE LINE studios for an animated short about Warframe: 1999, coming later this year.
That’s a lot to take in from the Warframe universe. If you’ve missed anything, do not worry – catch up with all the videos below!
