Throne And Liberty Announce Founder Packs Starting at $40 as Open Beta Issues Are Resolved

The open beta version of the eagerly anticipated MMORPG, Throne and Liberty by NCSoft, is currently running, and predictably, it has had its share of issues. Several servers, especially in Europe, have experienced significant downtime, while others, particularly remote ones, are delivering subpar performance. Players in Oceania are especially unhappy about the lack of dedicated servers in their region. Even PC players using controllers have reported problems. While some of these issues have been resolved, others are still being addressed. But that’s the nature of beta testing, right?

The beta version has so far attracted just under 60K players on Steam, although this figure might be somewhat suppressed due to the ongoing technical issues. We’ll keep track of these changes over the coming weekend.

Even though we had an outline of Throne and Liberty’s monetization strategy a few days ago, the team wasn’t ready to detail any founder packs. We now have information on these packs, and I was somewhat surprised to see the introductory price for these packs in the free-to-play game starts at $40, which feels a bit high for the lowest-priced pack.

There are three packs, priced at $40, $70, and $100 respectively. All of them offer a 5-day head start before the official launch date on September 17th. The $40 pack includes three morph cosmetics, an amitoi, and a title. For $70, you get all the aforementioned benefits plus the Shadow Knight Outfit, another amitoi, and 500 units of Lucent, the in-game currency. For $100, you can get everything included in the more economical packs, as well as the Radiant Spirit outfit, extra morphs, titles, and 1000 Lucent.

Remember, to get a head start on Xbox, you’ll also need a Game Pass subscription.

Frankly, I find these offers somewhat lacking, especially considering the price. If you’re a fan of pink, you might find appeal in these packs though, but it seems to me that they are reminiscent of cosmetics available in several well-known games.
