20K Sea of Thieves Players’ Progress Reversed Over Exploit Use

Approximately 20,000 Sea of Thieves consumers are likely feeling disheartened right now. In a recent announcement, Rare revealed that these individuals will experience a rollback of their progress due to an unintentional exploit in Season 13.

The exploit allowed teams to accumulate more rewards than intended when they completed the rituals at the Ancient Temples. Although the development team managed to fix the exploit approximately three days after it was identified, during this time, gamers maximized it and injected approximately 300B gold into the MMORPG economy.

In a video published yesterday, the Production Director, Drew Stevens, accepted that the team was unable to prevent the exploit. However, he stressed that “players who unfairly gain from [exploits] to enhance their advantage should be ready for sanctions”. He also pointed out that these penalties could range from loss of progression to limited playtime. This view is not unexpected, and it is something they will likely repeat in future instances.

The video also provides valuable insight into some of the tweaks expected in Season 13 for those seeking a more in-depth understanding.
